Cabo Roig Article

The fabulous seaside resort of Cabo Roig sits on the Mediterranean coastline like a jewel in a crown. Actually known as “the jewel of the Costa Blanca”, Cabo Roig is best known for its fine sandy beaches, its luxurious detached villas and its prestigious marina. Cabo Roig is possibly the finest resort along this stretch of the Costa Blanca coastline and this fact is reflected in the number of holidaymakers who visit and return year after year.

One of the best known sights in Cabo Roig is the 16th century watchtower around which Cabo Roig primarily grew. The watchtower was one of many built along this coast to look out for approaching Berber pirates who frequently attacked villages along the coastline. The watchtower now looks down on the recently renovated marina with its 200 plus moorings.

The beaches in and around Cabo Roig are very clean and generally safe (perhaps with the exception of La Zenia beach which does have some dangerous spring currents). The two main beaches of Cabo Roig are Cala Capitan and Cala Caleta, both are well maintained and are extremely popular during the summer months. Cala Caleta has a popular beach bar which is an excellent place for a tapas snack and a cooling drink.

Be sure to try out the well known cliff walk which runs from Cala Caleta beach to La Zenia beach, this is an ideal way to spend an evening during the bright summer months and will provide a very welcome cooling breeze on those hot muggy days. The walk offers some picturesque views of the sea and coastline and there are some interesting coves to explore along the way.

Cabo Roig has a wonderful climate and the sun shines on over three hundred days per year, the mean temperature being about 20 degrees C. You can usually expect to see little rainfall between May and October and the days are generally long and sunny. When rain does fall it is usually during the winter months, November and February being the most common months for rain. December and January are usually sunny and pleasant but with cold nights.

After a day in the sun most visitors head for the bustling Cabo Roig strip with its ever increasing selection of bars and restaurants offering food, fun and frolics to suit every taste. There are some excellent restaurants providing dishes from around the world including Spanish, Italian, Indian, Chinese, Mexican, Hungarian, German, English and Irish.

The list of things to do in and around Cabo Roig is endless, here are just a few suggestions – take a trip into the nearby town of Torrevieja and visit the huge Friday market (the biggest in the region), in the afternoon take the kids to the Aqua Splash Park (Aquopolis) with its enormous water slides and lovely picnic area. Visit one of the many ancient Spanish cities in the region, choose from Murcia, Orihuela, Cartagena, Elche or Alicante – all have a good selection of attractions that are worth a visit. Try out the Go-Karts at Punta Prima, great fun for kids and adults, or visit the nearest circus – there are plenty to choose from during the busy summer months.

Cabo Roig is in an ideal location close to the AP-7 motorway and within an easy drive of both Alicante and Murcia airports. If coming from Alicante get off at junction 763 (La Zenia), if coming from Murcia get off at junction 768 (Dehesa de Campoamor). You will find Cabo Roig on the N-332 coast road.

One of the Costa Blanca’s prime locations – Cabo Roig will surely not disappoint you. Book a flight and enjoy the sunshine sometime soon.
